It was reported this week that Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter is under investigation for betting irregularities.
This issue stems around prop bets for games played on Jan. 26 and March 20. These prop bets involved Porter.
On Wednesday night, Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. commented on his brother’s situation. He vouched for Jontay, citing his “love for the game” has a reason why he wouldn’t gamble.
“I’ve known my brother my whole life,” Michael Porter Jr. said, via ESPN. “I know what type of dude he is and I know he’s excited to play basketball and I highly doubt he would do anything to put that in jeopardy.”
Michael Porter Jr. then talked about how sports betting has unfortunately changed how fans view the game.
“Yeah, especially the last few years you hear people in the crowd saying what they need you to score tonight or what they don’t want you to score,” the NBA champion said. “Every night you’re disappointing someone. You’re disappointing people if you score too much because they may have bet on the under, and you’re disappointing people if you didn’t score enough.”
The NBA is currently “looking into” Jontay Porter’s situation. It’s unclear when an update will be provided.
Jontay Porter is averaging 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the Raptors this season. He last played on March 22.
