Just like most college football teams, Colorado has lost multiple players to the transfer portal. That means Deion Sanders has to replenish his depth chart before the fall.
Unfortunately for Colorado has lost significant depth in the trenches. Offensive tackles Savion Washington and Isaiah Jatta have both entered the transfer portal. The former started nine games at right tackle last season.
With Washington no longer in the picture, it seems like a certainty that five-star recruit Jordan Seaton will be one of Colorado’s starting offensive tackles.
In addition to losing Washington and Jatta this offseason, Colorado lost safety Myles Slusher, defensive linemen Chazz Wallace and Zach Blackwood, and wide receivers Jacob Page and Tar’Varish Dawson to the transfer portal.
Colorado pass rusher Devee Harris could also enter the transfer portal. He appeared in 12 games this past season, recording 14 tackles.
NIL has certainly influenced players to enter the transfer portal. Sanders has said he’s trying his best to recruit players who focus on football instead of brand deals.
“I attract the type of player that wants to be great, that understands he has a window of opportunity and he has to have a commitment to excellence,” Sanders said. “There are players who are playing for a bag, which growing up in the environment, you can’t blame them, you can’t fault them. If you’re going to give up a bag, you’re gonna have players playing for a bag, so I do understand it. I may not condone that’s your focus because I’ve always thought if you just focus on being great, the bag is gonna find you.”
Sanders is entering his second year at Colorado. He’ll try to improve his 4-8 record from last season.
