After signing veteran Levi Wallace and drafting rookie Kris Abrams-Draine, the Denver Broncos suddenly have a crowded cornerback depth chart.
The Broncos will have to make some tough lineup decisions and some hard roster cuts at the position later this summer. It’s a nice problem for coaches.
“[I]t’s a really good problem to have,” general manager George Paton said after the draft. “I’ve mentioned before, you can’t have enough pass rushers, you really can’t have enough corners.
“So we know we’re going to have good depth, young depth. You can’t ask for anything for more. Especially that Pat [Surtain] is kind of the leader of the group, and he’s only 24 years old. So it’s going to be a young group. They’ll have growing pains like all of them, but we feel like it’s a talented group.”
So, how does the cornerback depth chart shake out going into the summer? Here’s our updated projection:
CB1 | Slot | CB2 |
Pat Surtain | Ja’Quan McMillian | Riley Moss |
Damarri Mathis | Kris Abrams-Draine | Levi Wallace |
Tremon Smith | Reese Taylor | Art Green |
Quinton Newsome |
Keep in mind that this is a projection from Broncos Wire, not an official depth chart from the team. Denver will not release an official depth chart until preseason begins in August.
Abrams-Draine will get an opportunity to compete for rotational playing time as a rookie, but he won’t begin training camp as one of the top CBs on the depth chart.
