Whiteout conditions led to the closure of eastbound Vail Pass Monday morning.
The Colorado State Patrol in Eagle County tweeted about the closure shortly before 9 a.m.
A snow squall warning is in effect for the Pass and other high country areas until 9:15 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service warns that wind and snow is limiting visibility through mountain passes. Travelers should be prepared for changing conditions, snowpacked roads and near zero visibility, the NWS said in a tweet.
