Colorado grab three points from the Quakes.
On July 17, the Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes played to a 1-1 draw at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Tonight, a late goal from Dominique Badji gave the Rapids all three points in a 1-0 victory at PayPal Park.
In just the 6th minute of the game, centerback Lalas Abubakar was subbed out after going up for a header and colliding with San Jose’s Jeremy Ebobisse. Veteran Drew Moor stepped in to help the defense secure the clean sheet.
That is now 6 road wins for the @ColoradoRapids, equaling the most they’ve ever managed since ties were introduced.
It is also 9 shutouts for Yarbrough, one shy of the club record held by Joe Cannon and Clint Irwin.

The Rapids had several chances throughout the game. Cole Bassett hit the post in the second half (and now leads MLS in posts hit) and in the 79th minute, Jonathan Lewis crossed it into Nicolas Mezquida, who attempted a bicycle kick. San Jose goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski pushed the ball out of bounds and the Rapids got their only corner of the game, but unfortunately weren’t able to do anything with the opportunity.
And then Dominique Badji subbed on in the 88th minute and within a minute, put the Rapids on the board.

San Jose responded quickly and almost leveled things in stoppage time, but Rapids ‘keeper William Yarbrough came up big and at the final whistle, the Burgundy Boys got the W.
After Sporting Kansas City got smoked 4-0 by LAFC yesterday and a Rapids’ win tonight, Colorado move up to 2nd place in the Western Conference with 41 points to SKC’s 40. The Rapids sit one point behind the first-place Seattle Sounders, with one game in hand. Colorado also have the second-highest PPG in the league (1.95), behind the New England Revolution (2.17).
