The Rapids fell flat in Sandy, Utah on Saturday night
Coming into tonight’s final Rocky Mountain Cup match, the Colorado Rapids were coming off a fantastic win against Minnesota United FC while Real Salt Lake were coming off a road loss in Austin. Unfortunately, the home side took a 3-1 victory and the 2021 Rocky Mountain Cup.
The Rapids came out flat and struggled to get anything going in the first half. Damir Kreilach put RSL on the board in the 13th minute.

The Burgundy Boys continued to struggle but had several good chances in a row in the 72nd minute. In the 73rd minute, Younes Namli took a strike and it deflected off of Kreilach to find the back of the net and give Colorado some life.

The Rapids had a bit of a spark after the goal, but also had difficulty connecting passes and getting off shots. RSL’s Anderson Julio put the nail in the coffin, going 1v1 with William Yarbrough and nutmegging the goalkeeper in the 6th minute of stoppage time.
Colorado will stay in 3rd place with 51 points as they look forward to hosting the Seattle Sounders at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday. Diego Rubio will be suspended due to yellow card accumulation after getting a yellow in the game tonight.
