What Calling Up the Rockies No. 4 Prospect Means for the Club

May 1, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

Colorado’s left fielder Nolan Jones was forced to exit the game due to back stiffness. This injury will put Jones on the IL for 10 days. Due to this injury, it was announced that the Rockies have called up outfielder Jordan Beck, who is set to make his debut in Tuesday night’s matchup against the Marlins in Miami. Beck is ranked as the No. 73 prospect by MLB Pipeline, and the fourth-ranked prospect for Colorado. During spring training, Beck’s play looked major-league-read. Now, he can prove to the big league club what he’s capable of doing.

What to Expect from Jordan Beck

The Rockies drafted the 23-year-old outfielder as the 38th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. Through his first year with Colorado, Beck has quickly risen through the Rockies farm system. In 126 games with both the High-A Spokane Indians and the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats, Beck has slugged 25 home runs with 91 runs batted in. He also recorded 20 stolen bases while batting .271/.364/.503.

After receiving the Abby Greer Award for his phenomenal play during Spring Training, Beck continued to stay hot in Triple-A with the Albuquerque Isotopes. With the Isotopes the young outfielder played in 25 games. In 101 at-bats, he recorded 31 hits, five home runs, and 28 runs batted in. Beck had a batting average of .307 and a slugging percentage of .433. With Jones on the injured list, and with Kris Bryant haven’t resumed any baseball activities since injuring his back in Toronto, Beck has the opportunity to make his mark in this Rockies lineup. Bryant has had the opportunity to return to play since he was eligible to return last Wednesday. It will be intriguing to see if what happens moving forward regarding who will hold the starting outfield spots for the Rockies.

Can Beck the Rockies From Hitting A New Low?

Rockies ownership, management, and their fans are hoping Jordan Beck has the next-level ability to elevate the Rockies to new heights. From the looks of how their season has played out thus far, Colorado has the opportunity to hit a new low. Colorado is hoping Jordan Beck can be the team’s savior this season and throughout the future. Beck has flown up the Rockies farm system. Now, it’s time he proves that he can have an all-star career. Perhaps even turn this Rockies team completely around.

The Rockies may decide to keep Beck around for the long term this season. If he does well, it gives him a chance to grow at the major league level. Once the young outfielder gets comfortable, and recognizes pitches with ease, Beck may become one of the Rockies cornerstone pieces, one cornerstone piece that may help this team turn it around for the better. The young promising outfielder has a chance to show why he’s ready for prime time.
