Colorado Rockies minor league report for Tuesday, May 6th, 2025
Now entering the month of may, there’s even more baseball and prospect news to discuss. The Arizona Complex League has begun, we’ve got our first organizational Players of the Month, and it’s time once again for your Weekly Pebble Report!
Organizational Players of the Month: April 2025
He’s on Hughes control: Although he’s been on a short leash while he fully recovers from Tommy John surgery, top pitching prospect Gabriel Hughes (no. 11 PuRP) looks to have retained everything that made the Rockies take him with their first pick in 2022. Hughes was named the Rockies organization’s Pitcher of the Month after holding his opponents to a .197 batting average across five starts in April with a 2.08 ERA over 21 2⁄3 innings of work. He struck out 17 batters to just four walks.
Congratulations to Yard Goats pitcher Gabriel Hughes, who has been named the Rockies Organizational Pitcher of the Month for April. Hughes posted a 2.08 ERA in five starts during he month of April… holding his opponents to a .197 average. pic.twitter.com/83hFvlN5kS

Thomas the Hits Tanks Engine: We’ve already talked about him a lot this season, and for good reason. Jared Thomas (no. 14 PuRP) was named the Rockies organizations’ Player of the Month for April. Thomas carried a 1.006 OPS with four home runs, 19 RBIs, and five stolen bases through the month of April and he looks to help set the tone for the future of Rockies baseball.
Hop on before the hype train leaves the station. Congrats to Jared Thomas on being named the Rockies Organizational Player of the Month! #GoSpo

Triple-A: Albuquerque Isotopes (2-3, 13-19 Overall)
The Isotopes only played five of six against the Salt Lake Bees (Los Angeles Angels) due to inclement weather in their Sunday series finale. Unfortunately, this means they didn’t have the opportunity to salvage a series split. The ‘Topes currently sit at six games below .500 and have the second-worst record in the Pacific Coast League.
Starting with a Veen slate: Since being optioned back to Triple-A after struggling during his first big-league cup of coffee, outfielder Zac Veen (no. 4 PuRP) has hit the ground running. In six games he has gone 8-for-26 with a double, a triple, a home run, and four RBIs. Veen only appeared in three games against the Bees, going 3-for-12 with a home run and two RBIs.
Not a Carreras in the world: Isotopes infielder Julio Carreras is riding a ten-game hitting streak dating back to April 22nd against Reno and continued his white hot ways at the plate with a strong series against the Bees. In five games, Carreras went 8-for-17 at the plate with two doubles, three RBIs, and three stolen bases. He’s currently hitting .379/.415/.500 on the season. With the Rockies’ infield depth being tested, Carreras may earn an MLB debut by forcing the big-league club’s hand.

Where there’s a Hill, there’s a way: Hard-throwing right-handed reliever Jaden Hill (no. 19 PuRP) was optioned back to Triple-A to end the month of April. However, in his first two appearances since rejoining the Isotopes, he continues to show he should probably be on the big-league roster. Hill pitched 2 2⁄3 scoreless innings against Salt Lake without giving up a hit or a walk and struck out four batters.
Double-A: Hartford Yard Goats (4-2, 16-10 Overall)
The Yard Goats saw their eight-game home winning streak come to a close in the tail end of their series against the newly rechristened Chesapeake Baysox (Baltimore Orioles). After quickly securing a series win with four consecutive victories, they dropped the final two games of the series. The talented Hartford Squad remains the only Rockies affiliate with a winning record as we start the month of May.
The Full Monty: After a bumpy start to the season, Yard Goats outfielder Benny Montgomery (no. 16 PuRP) is starting to find his rhythm. Benny turned on the jets in four games against the Baysox, going 5-for-15 with a home run, a double, and two RBIs. After losing so much time in his young professional career to injury, the key for Montgomery’s success is now to stay healthy and keep finding that groove.

Add it to the Kyle pile: Third baseman Kyle Karros (no. 12 PuRP) is off to a fine offensive season with the Yard Goats, and went 4-for-13 with an RBI, two doubles, and a stolen base against the Baysox. What gets talked about less is his sterling glove work. The 2024 Minor League Gold Glove winner made highlight-reel catches on back-to-back nights. The first was a tarp catch of his very own—something that’s become synonymous with Rockies third basemen—and the second as a running, cross-body catch. The organization is high on Karros and it’s easy to see why he might be the next big-league third baseman.
This Cole is burning red hot: Cole Carrigg (no. 10 PuRP) has been one of the Yard Goats’ best at the plate this season, hitting .281/.373/.506 with four home runs, four doubles, and two triples. He leads the team with 22 RBIs and seven stolen bases. Against the Baysox, Carrigg went 7-for-21 with nine RBIs and hit his second grand slam of the season.
High-A: Spokane Indians (3-3, 13-14 Overall)
Another series, another series split for the Spokane Indians. This time it came against the Tri-City Dust Devils (Los Angeles Angels) on the road. The Indians have split all but one series so far this season, a three-game set against the Aqua Sox to open the campaign.
Perdomo Performs: 23-year-old Dominican right-handed reliever Alan Perdomo has been quietly excellent for the Indians so far this season. He hasn’t allowed a run—earned or otherwise—since his first appearance of the season back on April 5th. That was 11 outings ago. Against the Dust Devils, Perdomo made three appearances and gave up just one hit across 3 1⁄3 innings of work with three strikeouts to one walk.
Our Palermo, Davis: Davison “Davis” Palermo—a 2022 eighth rounder—is an older pitcher with the Indians at 25-years-old, but like his teammate Perdomo has been quietly delivering brilliant results out of the Spokane bullpen. In ten appearances and 14 2⁄3 innings of work, Palermo has an ERA of just 1.23 with 15 strikeouts. He made two scoreless appearances against the Dust Devils and gave up just one hit with two strikeouts.
Davis Palermo has been nails out of the bullpen for Spokane this season: 13.2 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 15 K, 1.32 ERA, .167 AVG. #GoSpo

I’m out of wordplay options. Welinton Herrera is just really good: Indians closer Welinton Herrera should probably be promoted to Double-A Hartford at this point. With a 0.71 ERA and six saves to start the season, he is all nails, all the time. Herrera earned another three saves in three shutout appearances against the Dust Devils, giving up just one walk and one hit across three innings with four strikeouts.
Welinton Herrera slammed the door on Tri-City to pick up his third save of the week in Sunday’s finale. To find out how you can save, visit myavista.com. #GoSpo

Low-A: Fresno Grizzlies (1-5, 9-18 Overall)
It’s been a tough start for the Fresno Grizzlies in 2025 with a lot of late and/or close game losses, but losses nonetheless. The Grizzlies dropped five of six against the Visalia Rawhide (Arizona Diamondbacks) and their record sank to nine games below .500.
A one-man Brechting crew: Brody Brecht (no. 6 PuRP) made two strong—albeit short—starts against the Rawhide. He started the series with a four inning shutout start in which he gave up just three hits and one walk while striking out a career high nine batters. In his second start to close the series, Brecht gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits, but also struggled with command. He hit two batters and walked another four. However, his strikeout stuff continues to dominate, as he fanned six batters in 3 2⁄3 innings.
The Hawai’ian Dutchman: Grizzlies infielder Jacob Hinderleider hails from Hawaii and was signed as an undrafted free agent this off-season. He’s been easing his way into his first professional season since being activated on April 22nd and has shown some potential. Hinderleider has two multi-hit games in his first 11 professional outings. He played all six games against the Rawhide and went 4-for-4 on Friday with his first professional extra-base hit and an RBI. On Saturday his two-run double helped the Grizzlies to their only win of the series.
Tonight’s @SoFi Player of the Game goes to Jacob Hinderleider for the second consecutive night!
This time, his the two-strike, two-out, two-run double gave the Grizzlies the lead and the win!

Robert Returns: In his first action since Opening Day, Robert Calaz (no. 5 PuRP) made an impact right away. The 2024 Arizona Complex League MVP played in five of six against the Rawhide, going 5-for-17 at the plate with a double, two home runs, four RBIs, and an even 1:1 strikeouts to walks ratio at five each. Calaz was activated from the injured list before the series started.
Arizona Complex League: ACL Rockies (2-0, 2-0 Overall)
The Arizona Complex League kicked off with a bang as the ACL Rockies scored 22 combined runs across their first two games of the short season. The ACL Rockies cemented strong victories over the ACL Giants (San Francisco Giants) and ACL Angels (Los Angeles Angels) to come out of the gate swinging.
Stupendous Sullivan: Shifty left-handed starter Sean Sullivan (no. 8 PuRP) made his first appearance of the year as he works to return from off-season hip surgery that left him sidelined longer than expected. The 2023 second rounder out of Wake Forest dominated in his return to action. Over 2 2⁄3 innings he struck out seven batters and walked just one in a hitless, shutout performance.

The Condor Rises: After his spring training ended early with a broken wrist, 2024 first round pick Charlie Condon (no. 2 PuRP) has returned to the field for a rehab stint with the ACL. Codon went 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, and two RBIs. After struggling in his first professional season both with results and an injured thumb, Rockies fans may be in for a treat if he can regain the form he displayed at the University of Georgia.
