Three Rockies Prospects Who Are Having a Strong Spring Training

March 21, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

Behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Colorado Rockies are the second-best team in the Cactus League. During the 2024 Spring Training, with their 14-8 record, the Rockies want to show their fanbase and the entire league that they can improve after a dismal 2023 season. Through Colorado’s first 22 Spring Training games, many prospects have been shining due to their efficient play. Many of these prospects are trying to prove to the Rockies staff they have what it takes to make the team’s 40-man roster. Some won’t make the Opening Day roster. However, we could see these guys get called up during the middle of the season or next year. Six Spring Training games remain for the Rockies. Will any more Rockies prospects stand out before their regular season starts on March 28th?

Rockies Prospects Enjoying a Good Spring Outing

Hunter Goodman

24-year-old first baseman Hunter Goodman played 17 big league games with the Rockies in 2023. Through 70 at-bats, he had 14 hits, a home run, and 17 RBI. Goodman has appeared in 15 Spring Training games. In 31 at-bats, the young first baseman recorded six hits, two home runs, and six runs batted in with a .194 batting average. His six hits are tied for first on the Rockies. Through spring training, he leads Colorado in home runs and runs batted in. Despite having a .194 batting average, Goodman still has six more Spring Training games to prove himself and shine. Kris Bryant and Michael Toglia will be commanding first base for the 2024 season. We could see Hunter debut at first base during the middle of this season or in 2025.

Adael Amador

The 20-year-old second baseman is bursting through the seams with potential. Despite potentially not being called up until 2025, Adael Amador has plenty of time to make himself roster-ready. He’s played in 11 Spring Training games. In 16 at-bats, the promising young second baseman had four hits. He also leads all rookies on the Rockies with four walks. The Rockies promoted him to Double-A last season. While playing for the Hartford Yard Goats, Amador had five hits in 35 at-bats. With six Spring Training games left on the docket, the 20-year-old second baseman will look to make this Colorado Rockies team shine again, whether in the middle of this season or during the 2025 Spring Training.

Anthony Molina

This right-handed rookie pitcher has appeared in eight Spring Training games. Even though Anthony Molina has struggled as of late with a 4.76 ERA, he’s been shining as one of the top rookie pitchers for this Rockies franchise. In 11 and one-third innings, Molina has allowed 14 hits and two walks while striking out ten batters. He has the most innings pitched and strikeouts by a Colorado prospect. During the middle of the 2023 campaign, Molina was promoted from Double to Triple-A. In 27 starts and 28 games overall, Molina had a 4.50 ERA. Through 122 innings pitched, he struck out 102 batters. Once the 22-year-old gets comfortable and finds his rhythm, the Rockies could be looking at a potential cornerstone franchise.
