Three Rockies Hitters Reaching New Heights in Spring Training

March 15, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

We are 13 days away from the Colorado Rockies 2024 Opening Day matchup against the 2023 National League Champion Arizona Diamondbacks! Colorado has compiled a 12-7 record through Spring Training, and if they can continue this great play into the regular season, we could see a shocking comeback story. The Rockies have dominated Spring Training, especially when they’re home. When Colorado plays at home, they have a record of 7-1, compared to when they play on the road, where it’s 5-6. They have scored 117 runs thus far, which ranks second in the Cactus League and third overall out of all 30 teams in Spring Training. There have been some great hitters on this Rockies team shining this month. Perhaps 2024 we could see these three players reach new heights within their careers.

Three Rockies Hitters Reaching New Heights in Spring Training

1. Michael Toglia

25-year-old first baseman Michael Toglia has been the most impressive Rockies player this Spring Training. In 30 at-bats, Toglia recorded 10 hits, three home runs, and nine RBI with a .333 batting average. He has an on-base percentage of .429 and a .700 slugging percentage. Michael is tied with Elehuris Montero with the most home runs and RBI and is fifth on the Rockies with 10 hits. The young first baseman is going all in to reach new heights in 2024. Even though he has struck out 11 times this Spring Training, Toglia is looking to be another Rockie to elevate their game this regular season.

2. Elehuris Montero

Elehuris Montero has played in one more game than Toglia in Spring Training. The 25-year-old infielder and Michael have the most home runs and runs batted in for the Rockies this Spring Training. With 9 hits, he’s tied Jordan Beck with the sixth most hits. Elehuris also has a .250 batting average and .556 slugging percentage. Like Toglia, Montero has struck out ten times out of his 36 at-bats. Even if they’re striking out, these young players will learn, adjust from their mistakes, and hopefully reach new heights, especially ones we haven’t seen by this Rockies franchise. Last season, he played 85 games, 32 more than in 2022. In 284 at-bats, Montero recorded 69 hits, 11 home runs, and 39 runs batted in with a .243 batting average.

3. Ezequiel Tovar

The 22-year-old shortstop is looking to become a franchise cornerstone piece with this Rockies ball club in 2024. After having a dominant rookie season where he composed 147 hits, 15 home runs, 73 runs batted in, and 11 stolen bases with a .253 batting average, Ezequiel Tovar is back and ready to reach new incredulous heights with the 2024 Rockies. Furthermore, it helps this Rockies team compete in one of the most grueling divisions in baseball. Through 11 games and 29 at-bats, Tovar has put up eight hits, two home runs, and eight runs batted in with a .276 batting average. Last season, Ezequiel led the Rockies with 147 hits. If he continues the path of success, he’s on; the possibilities for Tovar and the Colorado Rockies are endless. Could Ezequiel lead the Colorado Rockies in hits for a second straight season? Could they be named an all-star?
