Colorado Rockies weekend discussion thread for May 24-25, 2025
The weekend is a great time to kick back and reflect. This Week in Purple is the place to catch up on the news from our team at Purple Row. You’ll find links to Rockpiles and other content below as well as a platform for community discussion in the comments.

I’ve always said “wait until Memorial Day to make decisions about a team’s identity.” I say this because anything before runs the risk of small sample size overreactions, either positive or negative. I wrote about this back in 2019, and it’s probably fair to revisit it.
Since then, not including the 2020 season, the Colorado Rockies have finished:
- 2021: 20-34, .370 (finished 74-87, .457)
- 2022: 22-26, .458 (finished 68-94, .420)
- 2023: 24-31, .436 (finished 59-103, .364)
- 2024: 19-34, .358 (finished 61-101, .377)
So far in 2025, the Colorado Rockies are 9-42 through 51 games. That’s a .176 winning percentage and with it officially being Memorial Day weekend, it’s officially safe to say that this team is bad (even with their exceptional win over the New York Yankees last night). However, there is still a lot of time left and it will all be about making marked improvements throughout the year, especially with Warren Schaeffer taking the reins of this young team. They’ll like lose 100+ games again, but if they can lower their strikeouts, figure out how to put the ball in play more, and at least make things more competitive… I’d call that a win.
