Colorado Rockies weekend discussion thread for April 5-6, 2025

I say once again: Things are happening.
Chase Dollander will be called upon to take Austin Gomber’s place in the Colorado Rockies’ rotation for the near future. Gomber was placed on the IL at the end of spring training with left shoulder soreness, and had a setback in his rehab assignment, which means he will be out for longer than expected. Bud Black expects another 2-3 weeks before Gomber is ready to come off the shelf.
To recap: Dollander (No. 1 PuRP) was drafted ninth-overall in 2023. He has skyrocketed through the system and had a strong showing in spring training, but ultimately was relegated to start his season with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.
He started on Sunday, throwing five innings of one-run baseball while recording five strikeouts, and was subsequently called into a meeting with the coaches on Friday morning. Instead of reviewing opposing pitchers, he was told the good news:
Dollander will face the not-Oakland Athletics on Sunday, and hopefully will be put in a position to have a good debut.
