Rockies Who Could Be Traded By The Deadline

July 25, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

The Colorado Rockies sit with a record of 38-65. They will try to benefit their future and could wind up being a major seller at the MLB Trade Deadline. Although they just tied their franchise record for most runs in a single game with 20 during a 20-7 victory over the Boston Red Sox, they’ve been struggling all season long. Colorado has had high expectations for the second half of the season after a horrendous first half. Now with the results this team has struck up thus far, the Rockies may trade away some of their talent for future prospects. There have been plenty of trade rumors involving a few Rockies players, so who could be off the team after the July 30th deadline date?

Rockies Who Could Be Leaving at the Trade Deadline

Elias Díaz

For about a month and a half, trade rumors have generated around catcher Elias Díaz. A few teams have had their interest in the 2023 All-Star Game MVP. In 254 at-bats, Díaz has put up 72 hits, five home runs, and 30 runs batted in. He has a slash line of .283/.333/.402. Amongst the league’s catchers, Díaz is having one of the best defensive seasons behind the plate in his career. While the Rockies may miss Díaz’s play, a trade could benefit the team in the long haul. Moving him would install Jacob Stallings as the team’s everyday starting catcher. With his name being mentioned numerous times around the rumor mill, it wouldn’t be surprising to see last year’s Midsummer Classic MVP on the move.

Austin Gomber

In addition, Rockies starter Austin Gomber‘s name has also appeared in trade rumors. However, his somewhat underwhelming season may push teams away. In 19 games, Gomber has put up a 2-6 record. In 105 innings pitched, he’s recorded a 4.70 ERA allowing 56 hits on 111 hits with 72 strikeouts and a 1.301 WHIP. The lefty had a solid month of May where he only allowed three runs, but only recorded one win in the process. The team may look to trade away Gomber in order to have a fighting chance in the future. With another pitcher on the mound, who hasn’t started as much this season, the Rockies may lose a bunch of games and hit a new low, but this gives another pitcher the chance to make a statement and help slowly turn this team around.

Will the Rockies Trade Kris Bryant?

The 2016 National League MVP has been nothing but disappointing since being a member of the Rockies. It may be time for Colorado to cut their losses and get rid of Kris Bryant before his value diminishes completely. The Rockies have struggled tremendously in recent years with Bryant in or out of the lineup. Most of the time, the former MVP is not even in the lineup, as he’s dealt with various injuries. Colorado must chalk up the generous contract as a loss and move on from Bryant. The 2016 NL MVP came to Colorado to win another World Series championship. The way this team has played, it looks like it won’t be happening, at least for the next few seasons before they have a fully developed squad. Trading Bryant would most likely put the team’s home run leader Michael Toglia as the everyday starter at first base.
