On August 26, the right-handed pitcher was designated for assignment by the Giants.
Rodríguez’s time with the Giants was uneven. He was drafted in 2011 by the Twins as an outfielder and transitioned to pitching in 2014. He signed an MiLB deal with the Giants in 2014 and made his major league debut at Coors Field in 2018.
He had a solid rookie season, starting in 19 games and going 6-4 with a 2.81 ERA, a 3.73 FIP, and 89 strikeouts to 36 walks in 118.1 innings. His strikeout rate was 6.8 batters per nine innings.
In 2019, he appeared in 28 games (16 starts) but finished with a 5.64 ERA, a 5.69 FIP, and 71 strikeouts to 36 walks in 99 innings.
Rodríguez, 28, made a few appearances in 2020, allowing 10 hits, 3 walks, and 6 earned runs in 4 innings, while striking out 2. He was worth -0.3 rWAR.
He relies primarily on a four-seam fastball that averages 92.7 mph, a curve, and a cutter.
He is also the son of Hall of Fame catcher Iván Rodrígeuz.
Purple Row will continue to follow this developing story.
