Rockies Former All-Star Suffering From Hamstring Tightness

June 20, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

On Tuesday night, the Colorado Rockies led 9-4 at Coors Field against the Los Angeles Dodgers after seven innings of play. During the top of the ninth inning, the Rockies’ bullpen allowed seven runs, which allowed the Dodgers to take the lead and eventually win the game 11-9. This loss now puts the Rockies at 25-48 on the season. They are ten games behind the fourth-place San Diego Padres in the NL West division. This is now Colorado’s third straight loss. They’ve lost five out of their last six games. During this loss, Colorado suffered another injury to their already depleted roster. Rockies former all-star and face of the franchise for over a decade, Charlie Blackmon, exited last night’s game during the first inning. It was reported the 37-year-old outfielder has been battling hamstring tightness. He hopes to return to action as soon as he possibly can.

During the first inning, the Blackmon was hit by a pitch. The next batter, center fielder Brenton Doyle, hit a ground ball single to left field. While running from first to third base, Blackmon grabbed his leg. He was immediately taken out of the ball game. Elehuris Montero was substituted for Blackmon, who went two for four with a home run during the loss. It was indeed sad to see the 37-year-old get subbed out of a game due to injury. Due to the fact he’s been one of the team’s best players this year.

Blackmon’s Impact

The Rockies former all-star has played in 61 games thus far. In 222 at-bats, he has recorded 59 hits. 17 of those 59 hits have been doubles, while he’s hit three triples and three home runs with 26 RBI and five stolen bases. He is slashing .266/.335/.410. Last month, he put up one home run and 15 RBI. Four of those runs batted in came during an 8-6 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on May 27th.

For his career, Blackmon is second on the Rockies all-time hits list (1,749), first in triples (66), sixth in home runs (218), second in runs scored (970), second in doubles (327), fourth in RBI (775), and fourth in offensive WAR (28.3). He’s been a key piece to the Rockies since debuting in 2011 and became one of their best players in franchise history. Losing Blackmon for any period of time would hurt Colorado as they need all the veteran leadership and production they can get in a rebuilding year for the franchise.
