Two RBI hits were the sole highlights of another lopsided loss
When looking at the box score, one would be surprised to hear that the Colorado Rockies did, at one point, lead in this game.
It’s true, but that short-lived lead would end up being the lone bright spot in an otherwise uneventful game as the New York Mets handed the Rox their 49th loss of the season with ease.
Tovar Time early
The Rockies got off to a hot start when Ezequiel Tovar strode to the plate in the top of the first inning. After Jordan Beck began the game by striking out on a pitch clock violation (how often do you see that?), Tovar got things back on track, golfing a low forkball out 376 feet out into left field for his third home run of the season.

It was a nice start to the game for the Rockies, who have had to scratch and claw for every lead they’ve managed to acquire this season.
Unfortunately, it was not to last.
Senzatela’s struggles continue, sevenfold
Antonio Senzatela entered Saturday’s contest having the highest opponent batting average in MLB, and his start did little to lower that number. After being gifted an early lead, Senza quickly returned the advantage to the home Mets.
Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo led off with singles in the bottom of the first, moving up a base when Juan Soto walked. With the bags loaded and no outs recorded, Senzatela did manage to strike out Pete Alonso before Brett Baty smashed a hanging curveball out into center field. Brenton Doyle made a valiant effort to make the catch but couldn’t quite get there in time as Baty’s three-run triple gave New York a 3-1 lead.
The Mets would score again on a Tyrone Taylor RBI single.
Senzatela would settle in somewhat, not allowing another run until the bottom of the fourth. It was then that he allowed back-to-back homers to Nimmo and Soto for a total of three more runs.

In all, he allowed seven earned runs in four innings on eight hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.
Estrada’s on the board
Playing in his second career game with the Rockies, Thairo Estrada entered looking for his first hit of the season. He found it in the top of the seventh inning when, facing down Kodai Senga with two men on base, he got his bat into the top of the zone and laced a single past a diving Baty to score Colorado’s second run of the game.
Unfortunately, the run did little to dent the lead that the Mets had built. In the end, the Rockies put up little resistance as they fell to 40 games under .500 before the first day of June.
Up Next
The Rockies will try to salvage a win in the finale of their series with the Mets on Sunday afternoon. That contest will see Colorado’s Carson Palmquist (0-3, 8.78 ERA) vs Clay Holmes (5-3, 2.98 ERA).
That game starts at 11:40am MDT. See you then!
