Marlin’s New Outfielder Rebounds With Hot Streak

August 30, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

The Marlins traded half their lineup at the deadline, bringing in several young players, including outfielder Kyle Stowers. The Marlins acquired Stowers when they traded left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers to the Baltimore Orioles and got Stowers and infielder Connor Norby. Stowers immediately joined the big league club once he was acquired.  In his first game with the team, he went 0-3 and struck out twice. This was a disappointing start to his season. But after 4 games in Colorado, he has finally started to heat up and is showing promise.

Marlin’s Outfielder Kyle Stowers Breaks Out and Finds Form

Before joining the Marlins, outfielder Kyle Stowers was a top prospect in the Orioles minor league system. He made his major league debut in 2022 but only had 168 plate appearances and batted .229/.274/.369 with the Orioles. The lefty was in and out of the minors for the entirety of his time in Baltimore, and in Triple-A Norfolk, he has a career .253/.351/.519 batting line with 57 home runs in 1,047 plate appearances. Stowers struggled to find his place in Baltimore, so the move to Miami was seen as a fresh start for the 26-year-old.

Once he arrived in Miami, he struggled during the first few weeks of being with the team. Stowers started his Marlins career with a humbling  5-for-52 (.096), no extra-base hits, no RBIs, three walks, and 23 strikeouts through 16 games. In his last ten-game stretch which coincides with the call-up of Norby, Stowers has been hitting 12-31. He has a five-game hit streak where he has gone 9-for-20 (.450) with two doubles, one triple, one homer, six RBIs, one walk and seven strikeouts. He has had his best series against the Colorado Rockies this past week. His standout performance occurred Thursday in the Marlins’ 12-8 victory. In this game, he collected three hits, including a double, and drove in four RBI

It seems Stowers is finally feeling comfortable in his swing and with the Marlins. Hopefully, his successes persist and he can be a major part of the future of the Marlin’s franchise.

Marlins Manager Skip Schumaker Praises Outfielder

MLB.com Christina De Nicola reports that the Marlins manager Skip Schumaker is optimistic about Stowers’ future with the Marlins.

“It’s going to be one of those chess matches every single day. That’s how you survive in this league. I’m really proud of him, of how he’s adjusted. But you’re right. New manager, new coaching staff, new hitting staff, new team, meeting new people every single day. I think that definitely changes things. Now he’s settled in, and I think this is more the version you’re going to see than the first couple weeks’ version.”
