Jordan Beck was called down to Triple-A Albuquerque on April 6. He had started the season 3-20 with no extra-base hits. But he has since rebounded in a major way. The left fielder is hitting .264/.331/.568 with a team-leading eight home runs and 16 RBI. Beck also leads the club with five stolen bases. After the slow start, Beck is shaping up to have a strong sophomore season after struggling in 2024.
Jordan Beck’s 2024 Season
Beck made his Major League Baseball debut with the Colorado Rockies in 2024. He showed flashes but largely struggled, hitting .188/.245/.276 with 13 RBI and three homers. Beck did show his speed on the bases last season, finishing third with seven stolen bases in half as many games as the team leaders. However, Beck’s rookie season was interrupted when he suffered a fractured left hand attempting a diving catch against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Beck was promptly placed on the 60-day injured list and did not return until August 13. He had a solid August, hitting .267/.365/.289 with 12 hits and three RBI in 45 at-bats. But finished the season ice cold. In September, he hit .109/.196/.196 with just two RBI and a 22:4 K: BB ratio.
However, Beck showed enough in Cactus League play to make the Rockies’ roster out of spring training. Over 24 games played, Beck was second on the Rockies with four home runs and first with six steals. He was a consistent producer on offense, recording eight RBI, making him an intriguing player to watch when the season began.
Bright Spot in Lost Season
There have been a few bright spots in a disastrous 8-39 start. In a season where the Rockies wanted to see their young talent emerge, Beck has done just that. The power and speed he showed in the spring carried over.
While he has struggled on defense, Beck has shown impressive arm talent to help fill the void left by outfielder Nolan Jones. Per Statcast, Beck is worth -4 outs above average, good for the bottom ten percent in Major League Baseball. However, his 2-arm value is in the 94th percentile, and his 87.5 arm strength is in the 72nd percentile.
While Beck’s struggles on defense are in line with the Rockies as a whole, his offensive performance has been refreshing. Mirroring the performances by Jones in 2023 and star Brenton Doyle last season. At just 24 years old, Beck has been the best on the Rockies this season in the power department and on the bases.

Few players in the MLB have punished opposing pitchers as well as Beck has. Both at home and on the road, Beck has consistently gotten the barrel out and found the sweet spot. He is a serious threat on the bases when he is not hitting home runs. He has been an extra-base machine, utilizing his speed to his full advantage.
Beck is in a four-way tie for fourth in the MLB with four triples. He is tied for third on the team with six doubles and is fourth with 16 RBI. Across the board offensively, Beck has been lights out in his sophomore season. No matter how badly this season continues to go, Beck is joining Doyle, first baseman Michael Toglia, catcher Hunter Goodman, and shortstop Ezequiel Tovar as a young player to build around.
Beck Joins Elite Company in Rockies History
Per TeamRankings.com, the Rockies are 28th in the MLB with 0.45 steals per game. The Rockies are also 21st with 42 home runs this season. Beck has been a standard bearer on one of the league’s worst offenses. He had a scorching April and has been on fire since. In April, Beck hit .295/.373/.727 with five home runs, 10 RBI, and two stolen bases. Beck experienced his best three-game stretch from 4-24 to 4-25.
Because of a double-header against the Kansas City Royals, Beck’s stellar performance came in a two-day span. Beck entered that Wednesday against the Royals with 0 homers and a .498 OPS. After facing the Cincinnati Reds on 4-25, Beck had hit four homers across eight at-bats. Raising his OPS from .498 to .981 and putting him in a tie for first on Colorado with four homers.

Beck hit another home run against the Reds on April 26, giving him five home runs in six at-bats over 36 hours. The stretch put Beck firmly in Rockies history, becoming the third Rockie to record back-to-back multi-homer games, per Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com.

Beck’s stretch called to mind Trevor Story’s debut. When the young Rockies shortstop in 2016 hit six home runs in his first four games, he was back-ended with multi-homer games. That was a fun stretch that will be remembered forever in Rockies’ history.
In 2016, the Rockies went 75-87, but Story was one of the defining stories of the season. The Rockies are on track to be much worse this season. In what is shaping up to be a great season for Beck, he gave Rockies fans a moment to remember in likely the worst season in franchise history.
