Two exciting rookie bats will meet on Friday night
It’s a City Connect kind of night as the Colorado Rockies and Chicago White Sox kick off their three-game series on Friday. What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than our nation’s pastime?
Antonio Senzatela (3-11, 6.69 ERA) will try to defend his home turf. He had an up-and-down June, recording three starts allowing two or less runs, but two more allowing five-plus. The most recent of those outings was against the Milwaukee Brewers, wherein he allowed five runs in 4 1⁄3 innings in an eventual shutout loss.
Senzatela will hope to start off this month on the right foot. Historically, he’s struggled in July, owning a higher ERA (6.41) than any other month of his career (though in fairness, his 17 games are the least of any month as well).
Opposing him will be veteran right-hander Adrian Houser (3-2, 1.90 ERA). The long-time Brewer is making his eighth start of the season, and has been excellent thus far. He’s allowed no more than three runs in a start so far, and has only allowed that many twice.
His last appearance, a win against the San Francisco Giants, saw him shut down their offense over seven shutout innings. In three previous starts at Coors, Houser owns a 3.60 ERA and a 1-0 record. Hopefully the Rockies bats can do a bit more damage this time out and hand him his first career L at aLtitude.
Fans of prospects should be excited to see a couple of top prospects go to work. Colson Montgomery, making his MLB debut, and Yanquiel Fernández, playing in his second career game, are the number 5 prospect on the White Sox and Rockies, respectively. Montgomery, viewed as Chicago’s shortstop of the future, will bat seventh in their lineup. Fernández, meanwhile, will hit ninth as the designated hitter, a position many hope he will own for years to come. Will one or both of them collect their first MLB knock on Friday?
Also of note is Josh Rojas, who’s a ridiculous 8-for-20 with a double and a home run against Senzatela. For Colorado, Ryan McMahon is 4-for-12 against Houser. Both Rojas and McMahon are in their team’s lineup today – look for them to factor in the outcome of the game.
