The Rockies aim for the sweep and a five-game win streak
It seems almost unfathomable, but the Colorado Rockies (17-57) are on the cusp of securing a four-game sweep of the Washington Nationals (30-44) and extending their win streak to five games. Hitting and pitching has been solid in the series and they’ll look to keep it rolling on Thursday.
Chase Dollander (2-7, 6.57 ERA) will take the hill for the Rockies and is still trying to put it all together at the major league level. Since returning from the injured list, Dollander has a 7.50 ERA in 12 innings of work, as he has been unable to limit damage throughout the season. A major culprit for his struggles has been the command of his pitchers. Over his last three outings, he has issued seven walks against eight strikeouts. On the season, Dollander has a 10.9% walk rate, which then leads to pitches over the plate getting hit.
Trevor Williams (3-8, 5.71 ERA) takes the ball for the Nationals for his 15th start of the season. Williams had a strong year with the Nats over 13 starts last season, but in the same amount of time this season is seeing different results. The counting stats aren’t too different, as he doesn’t walk many batters and can get his strikeouts, but opposing hitters are making a lot more contact and seeing results. Opponents are hitting .293 against him this season. Luckily for Williams, the home run hasn’t been much of a facto,r but the way the ball has been flying in this series, it could rear its head on a hot summer day.
