Rockies looking to take one from Texas in series finale
The Rockies are still looking for their first win under new interim manager Warren Schaeffer, in addition to tallying a mark in the rare road win column, as they finish a series in Texas on Wednesday.
The Rockies (7-35) have fallen to 2-19 on the road this season, while Texas has taken the opportunity of playing the Rockies to flip a losing record to a winning 22-21. In the first two games vs. the Rangers, which are Schaeffer’s first two writing the lineup card, the Rockies lost by a combined score of 6-2.
Antonio Senzatela (1-6, 5.77 ERA) will get the start for the Rockies. Senzatela enters the game having given up the most hits of all pitchers in baseball this season. While he’s escaped jams that could have made his ERA worse, as evident in his first two games when he didn’t give up an earned run. In his six starts since, Senzatela has a 7.67 ERA in 29 1⁄3 innings, giving up eight runs once and four runs in four other separate games.
The Rockies will see a familiar face on the mound in 35-year-old LHP Patrick Corbin. The two-time All-Star spent his first six seasons in Arizona before signing a six-year, $140 million deal with Washington, where he stayed from 2019-2024. Texas signed Corbin after the Rangers were hit with some spring training, including Cody Bradford and former Rockie Jon Gray, who broke his wrist on a comebacker against Colorado on March 15.
Sidenote: Gray attended an event the Rangers held on Wednesday honoring WWII veterans:
In partnership @AmericanAir, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation was honored to host 9 World War II veterans yesterday for our annual Seats for Heroes event!

This season Corbin (2-2, 3.13 ERA) has 20 strikeouts and 12 walks in 31 2⁄3 innings over six starts. He’s coming off a strong start when he gave up two runs on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts in seven innings in a 2-1 loss to the Tigers on May 9. In his career, Corbin is 12-8 in 29 appearances (28 starts) against Colorado with a 4.60 ERA in 164 1⁄3 innings.
Fun fact: Today is Rockies leadoff man and two-time Gold Glove center fielder Brenton Doyle’s 27th birthday.
