The Rockies will look to improve their secondary unit and up the rushing game
Happy Mother’s Day!
Saturday was a forgettable game as the Colorado Rockies (6-33) lost by three touchdowns to the San Diego Padres (25-13), but perhaps that embarrassment will be enough to inspire them in the series finale on Sunday.
Unfortunately, it has to start on the mound, and the Rockies have not had good luck with the rotation lately. Hit hardest with the struggles has been Germán Márquez (0-6, 9.90 ERA), who makes the start on Sunday. After tossing six scoreless innings against the Philadelphia Phillies in his first start, Márquez has allowed four or more runs in every start since, including five or more runs in each of his last five starts. Hits have been plentiful while strikeouts have been harder to come by. In his last outing against the Padres on April 11, he allowed six runs on seven hits in 4 2⁄3 innings.
He’ll face off against Nick Pivetta (5-1, 2.01 ERA) for the Padres. In seven starts, Pivetta has been a revelation for the Padres, including his start against the Rockies on April 11 when he blanked the Rockies for seven innings, allowing just three hits. His last outing against the New York Yankees saw Pivetta surrender three runs on five hits over five innings of work with five strikeouts and four walks.
In roster news, the Rockies have called up Anthony Molina and selected the contract of 2018 first round pick Ryan Rolison from Triple-A Albuquerque. Bradley Blalock and Juan Mejia were sent down and Kris Bryant was moved to the 60-day IL.
Lets win one for all the moms out there!
