After 2 days of rain in Denver, Rockies prepare to face Tigers
After playing 25 games in 27 days, the Rockies got two days off — one thanks to rain — but they will be back in action tonight when they play the Detroit Tigers.
Chase Dollander (2-3, 6.48 ERA) will be on the mound for the Rockies (6-28). Dollander is coming off a win on April 30 against Atlanta when he outdueled 2024 NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale. He gave up only one run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 5 2⁄3 innings of work.
While Dollander was rolling through the Braves, the fingernail on the middle finger of his pitching hand was starting to crack. After issuing two walks in the sixth inning, and with his finger bleeding, Dollander had to leave the game with two outs.
The Tigers (22-13) come to Coors Field riding an offensive hot streak as they scored 34 runs in a four-game, 3-1 series victory over the Angels. In their last seven games, also including a three-game series in Houston against the Astros, Detroit has hit 20 — yeah, you read that right — 20 home runs. For perspective, the Rockies have totaled 27 home runs on the year as a team in 34 games. While colder temps and heavier air after two days of rain might slow them a bit, it will be interesting to see what the Tigers can do at Coors Field.
While the surrounding mountains got snow, the Front Range received a thorough soaking on Tuesday and got even more rain on and off throughout the day on Wednesday. Some dark clouds remain in the skies above Denver on Wednesday afternoon, but most severe weather has been north of Coors Field.
