Rockies could win 3rd series post-All-Star break with victory today

The Rockies and Guardians (53-54) will wrap up their series today with a rubber match in Cleveland. Both games have been high-scoring affairs with the Rockies (28-79) taking the first game 8-6 before falling 10-4 on Tuesday.

The Rockies front office was busy before the game as the trade deadline approaches, dealing veteran reliever Tyler Kinley to Atlanta for RHP Austin Smith, an 18th-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. Read more about the trade here.

Kyle Freeland (2-10, 5.24 ERA) will make his 20th start of the season for the Rockies. Freeland has had nine quality starts this season, but not often received enough run support. After giving up one run on five hits with three strikeouts against the Twins on July 18, Freeland earned his first win since June 4. He gave up four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in six innings in a no-decision against Baltimore in his last start, but the Rockies got the win.

Kolby Allan (2-1, 2.83 ERA) will be on the mound for Cleveland. The 27-year-old lefty has mostly come out of the bullpen this season with long and short relief appearances. He has pitched in 21 games for the Guardians this season, but only one has been a start. The one start came against the Dodgers on May 28 when he gave up two runs on two hits in four innings.
