The Rockies’ miserable skid to start 2025 continues with a loss to the visiting Atlanta Braves.
The Colorado Rockies had their historically bad start to the season continue with a loss to the Atlanta Braves in the first of three. Their 4-24 record makes them one of just six teams to achieve a record that bad—or worse—through the first 28 games of the season dating back to the 1894 Washington Senators. With seemingly no end in sight, how much worse will it get? One more loss would tie the record for worst through 29 games, and a sweep at the hands of the Braves would tie them for the worst in 30. They’ve lost seven straight games and have just one win in their last 16 contests.
A Good Man Makes the First Inning Fun
The Rockies held a lead through the first three innings thanks to the Rockies offense coming out of the gate swinging in the first. After a Jordan Beck double and a Ryan McMahon walk, the surging Hunter Goodman uncorked a three run home run to put the Rockies in front early.

Feltner the Fighter
Starting pitcher Ryan Feltner wasn’t his sharpest tonight after having his start postponed due to back tightness after his most recent weight room session. However, he held the Braves to just three runs in his first four innings. The Braves may have had ten hits, but most of those hits were on soft contact and even included a few infield singles.
Atlanta gets back-to-back swinging bunt singles with a .210 and .220 expected batting averages.
#Rockies Ryan Feltner gives up an RBI-single that traveled all of 3 ft with a -65 launch angle. Tough luck.

Feltner was in trouble in the fourth inning, taking an awkward step off the mound that clearly aggravated his back. He allowed one run but gutted it out to finish the frame without so much as a cursory mound visit from the pitching coach or training staff. He saw a noticeable drop in fastball velocity, but made solid use of his breaking pitches to end the inning on a strikeout with the bases loaded. He made it through two outs in the fifth—with two more strikeouts—before a Michael Harris II double plated two runs and drove a visibly frustrated and hurting Feltner from the game.
A Solid Bullpen Effort
The Rockies bullpen put in work tonight with Feltner’s early exit. Angel Chivilli was yet again called to work multiple innings. He allowed one earned run on two hits and a walk but kept the Braves from piling on in the late innings. Jake Bird gave up two hits but kept the eighth inning scoreless with a strikeout. Bird has currently thrown the fourth most innings in the league as a reliever with 17. Rookie Juan Mejia made his first appearance as an “official” member of the 26-man roster, working a 1-2-3 inning and striking out two batters.
Did the Rockies take Loperamide? Because they had no more runs…
After the three run first inning, the Rockies failed to score another run and were hitless with runners in scoring position. Ryan McMahon’s quest for a hit continues as he is now hitless in his last 27 at-bats, though he did draw three walks. Alan Trejo was inches away from his first home run of the season, which bounced off the top of the outfield wall and was ruled a double. Adael Amador hit a double to the deepest part of the yard with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Brenton Doyle struck out on a check swing to end the game. The brightest spot of the offense outside of Goodman’s home run was Jordan Beck. Beck went 2-for-4 with two doubles, and could have easily had a third if not for it being ruled a fielding error by Braves left fielder Alex Verdugo.
Coming Up Next
The second game of this three game set against the Atlanta Braves is tomorrow night. Germán Márquez will take the mound for the Rockies. The Braves starter has not yet been announced. First pitch is at 6:40 PM MDT.
