Bold Predictions for the 2024 Colorado Rockies

March 28, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

The Colorado Rockies take on last season’s National League Champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Colorado will be tested out of the gate in their first four-game series with their division rivals. Everyone across the league including the Rockies were in shock following the signing of  Jordan Montgomery. While Colorado may not see Montgomery pitch during their first series, this team has to be somewhat nervous about what is to come this season. The NL West division is stacked and might be the most competitive division in baseball. After a miserable 2023 season, the 2024 Rockies are looking to bounce back and improve in every area they fell short on last season. These bold predictions are quite doable for this Rockies team.

Bold Predictions for the Rockies

Rockies Win More Games Than Last Season

Yes, they will increase their win total from 2023, but will finish in the basement of the NL West. Last season, the Rockies put up a terrible 59-103 record. While they played pretty decent at home putting up a 37-44 record, Colorado was just a really bad team on the road compiling a record of 22-59. Due to their young pitching core, the Rockies are once again projected to be the worst team in the majors for a second season in a row. FanGraphs projects Colorado will finish the regular season with a 63-99 record. That is just a four-game improvement from the 2023 season. While they’re projected to score nearly five runs a game, the Rockies pitching staff is predicted to give up six runs a night. Even in the toughest division in baseball, the Rockies must put up a fight this 162-game season.

Rockies Will Set a Record for Most Pitchers Used in a Single Season

Many MLB experts believe the Rockies have one of the worst if not the worst pitching staff this season. For the sole reason of this, many are predicting the 2024 Colorado Rockies will set a record for the most pitchers used in a single season. The 2022 Chicago Cubs currently hold the most recent record with 42 different pitchers used on the mound. A few other teams tie the Cubs for this record. However, experts believe the Rockies will blow past this record with ease.

Bold Prediction – Kris Bryant Will Look Like His Former Self

A determined Kris Bryant is looking to make 2024 his year to turn his career around. These past few seasons have been injury-riddled for Bryant, and now that he’s fully healthy, he will look to make this Rockies team somewhat competitive. Many, including Rockies manager Bud Black, have bold predictions that the 2016 NL MVP will have a huge bounce-back year. Black has all the confidence in the world that Bryant has the capability to hit at least 25 home runs. The 2016 NL MVP has recorded just 15 home runs in the past two seasons. If he can stay healthy, that will be huge for this 2024 Rockies offense. Especially, because this Rockies team is going to need all the help they can get this season. Everybody on the 40-man roster including Bryant needs to step up to make the 2024 season a success.
