Nikola Jokic recorded an awful 17-inch vertical leap at age 19

February 2, 2025 by Hoops Hype

Jokić was 19 years old and two months removed from being drafted in the second round by the Denver Nuggets. He had come to P3 to undergo an advanced athlete assessment. When he attempted a vertical leap, he jumped 17 inches. It was, according to Elliott, the worst vertical jump they had ever recorded. In the last decade, as Jokić grew into an NBA MVP and one of the best basketball players in the world, the story of his trip to P3 and his 17-inch jump has become a part of his lore. In many ways, it’s actually the least interesting part of the story.

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Jorge Sierra @hoopshype
Possibly not the biggest news of the night, but DeMar DeRozan passed Ray Allen in scoring for No. 28 in NBA history.
Also: Devin Booker moved ahead of Sam Cassell (No. 136) and Nikola Jokic did the same with Sam Jones and Kevin Love (No. 145). – 5:43 AM

The Nuggets just went 2-3 on their road trip. It felt way worse (and was) but the 1,000 foot view says they’re still okay.
Credit to Jokic’s clutch play, CB’s relentlessness, and more.

#Hornets on verge of stunning Denver, which led by as many as 17 points. They’re up 104-100 after successive buckets by Miles Bridges following successful challenge of a Nikola Jokic layup. – 9:15 PM

“Illegal contact by Jokic” is wild on that play. – 9:12 PM

MPJ blocks the three-pointer, Jokic catches and flings it to MPJ on the fly who gets the dunk.
Denver playing well with the starters. Getting good shots every possession. – 7:26 PM

I would guess that Michael Malone goes to the 9-man rotation tonight with:
Murray, Braun, MPJ, Gordon, Jokic
Pickett, Strawther, Tyson, Jordan
Hunter Tyson went to Clemson so he probably has family in attendance tonight. – 7:01 PM
