During Monday’s media day availability, Nikola Jokic was asked about his decision to turn down a contract extension offer with the Denver Nuggets this offseason worth $212 million over three seasons. Jokic can earn an additional $80 million if he waits to sign his next extension during the 2026 offseason.
“Those contract extensions come as a reward as something that is natural to the sport,” said Jokic. “Especially in today’s NBA with how the salary cap is going. My plan is to be a Nugget forever.”
There have never been any whispers about the possibility of Jokic having interest in someday leaving the Nuggets for another team. The Nuggets retooled their roster in adding Bruce Brown Jr., Cam Johnson, Jonas Valanciunas and Tim Hardaway Jr.
Denver was eliminated in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals in each of the past two playoffs following their championship in 2023.
