LeBron James: “And then (the Thunder) come off the bench with one of my favorite teammates of all time, Alex Caruso, who is like the dog. He’s the ultimate Swiss Army knife. We’ve literally seen him guard Giannis. We’ve seen him guard the Joker. You know, we’ve seen him guard Ant, we’ve seen him guard Julius Randle, we’ve seen him guard Jamal Murray throughout this whole postseason.”

There’s probably no point in your NBA team emulating the Warriors (you don’t have Steph) or the Lakers (ditto LeBron).
But they can do what the Pacers (18th in NBA salary) and Thunder (25th) have done.

More on this storyline
“You look at what’s going on with the Pacers throughout the regular season and now throughout the postseason, you get it. You get why they are the team they are, and it starts with the head of the snake, we know that, and that’s with Hali,” James said. “You can gravitate and bring energy and love and run through a wall for certain guys, and he’s a guy that you would do that for just because of how he plays the game.” -via The Score / June 4, 2025
LeBron James praised Tyrese Haliburton’s character on Wednesday’s episode of his “Mind the Game” podcast, explaining that he was a positive presence throughout Team USA’s gold medal run in Paris. “Just a great person, man. A great kid,” James said. “Didn’t matter if he was playing or if he got the opportunity, he was the same guy every single day. You could see that his main frame was soaking in all the knowledge and the details being around all of us. He was just super appreciative every single day. Never changed his mood.” -via The Score / June 4, 2025
Dwight Howard: ‘Everything combined, you got to give it to LeBron James. Scoring-wise, I got to say I like Kobe Bryant. If it’s late in the game, I’m giving the ball to Kobe. I’m not going to give the ball to LeBron late in the game. I’m going to give it to Kobe. -via YouTube / June 4, 2025
As a personal example, Carlisle mentioned how when he was Dallas, they brought Alex Caruso to a free-agent camp, then later passed on bringing him to summer league. Caruso, an offseason acquisition by the Thunder almost one year ago, plays an integral role on this team. -via Fieldhouse Files / June 4, 2025
“Being a guard and the guy your whole life and then coming in and having to be a role player, you have to change your mindset,” Wallace told The Athletic. “But once you come in every day and you see everybody buys into their role, you find out that being a role player isn’t bad. You can be a high-level player, but as long as you do your job, then that’s what it takes to win.” He has examples in his immediate vicinity. Dort and Caruso have built lucrative, appreciated careers in that mold. Dort said the two have had conversations about that path. Wallace has taken notice. “Everybody can’t be the man,” Wallace said. “Whatever it takes to win is the mindset we all have. That winning mindset gets you paid.” -via New York Times / June 4, 2025
