Nikola Jokic is an early MVP candidate this season, but that doesn’t mean everybody is familiar with his background quite yet
On Thursday night, the Denver Nuggets faced off against the Golden State Warriors in a nationally televised match-up broadcasted by TNT. Nikola Jokic, who is already being talked about as a potential MVP candidate due to his phenomenal start to the season, lead the way for the Nuggets once again with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. After the game, he was interviewed by the ““Inside the NBA” crew and at the end of the interview, a humorous, and sort of unbelievable, moment occurred involving none other than Shaquille O’Neal.
“He’s not Russian? I thought he was Russian?”

While it can be difficult to keep track of the ethnicities of all of the NBA players, Jokic has been and remains one of the best players in the league, so it was quite a shock to witness Shaq’s confusion when he found out Jokic wasn’t Russian. What made the moment so great was Jokic’s reaction. It’s obvious he’s used to those types of mixups, but he approached the error the same way he seems to approach everything – with a smile and a joke.
You gotta love our Serbian center.
