Bruce Brown signed with the Denver Nuggets on Friday. The two sides agreed to a 2-year contract worth $13.2 million, or $6.6 million per season. This contract ties him down through the 2023-24 season.

Over his four-year NBA career, Bruce Brown has played for the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets. He has put up 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for his career. He was initially drafted in the second round, 42nd overall of the 2018 NBA draft by the Pistons. Last season he put up 9.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Brooklyn Nets. Brown holds a player option in the second year.
Brown likely signed the contract for flexibility, and for a chance to play with the reigning NBA MVP. Brown’s role in Denver will likely consist of rebounding and shooting the ball well off the bench.
What This Means For the Future
Brown should provide the Nuggets with youth at guard after Denver shipped off some of their guards. Brown is a young, strong guard who can rebound the ball at a high level and plays excellent defense. He set a career-high in points this season and shot a career-high 40 percent from three. If Brown can shoot close to that mark again next season, he’ll be a great everyday rotational player for the Nuggets.
He showed some flashes of high potential with the Nets last season. The turmoil (but also injuries and absences) was widespread in Brooklyn last season, but Brown always showed up as a reliable player. He likely won’t start for the Nuggets, but Brown certainly has starting capabilities in the league. His playing style, playing like a big although being the size of a guard, is sometimes described as odd but may work well with the pieces in Denver.
