2025 NBA Free Agency: 3 More Teams In Mix For Ty Jerome

June 30, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

When the 2025 NBA free agency window opens on June 30 at 6:00 PM (EST), 2024-25 Sixth Man of the Year finalist Ty Jerome will be one of the most highly sought-after players on the market. In fact, the 27-year-old is now considered a “lock” to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason, per The Stein Line insider Marc Stein. This could explain why the Cavs completed a trade for oft-injured 6-foot-6 floor general Lonzo Ball yesterday.

With that being said, Stein notes that both the Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Hornets “keep coming up as likely suitors” for Jerome. The Utah Jazz are another team with interest, according RG’s Grant Afseth.

3 More Teams In Free Agent Mix For Ty Jerome

There could be more options for Jerome this summer.

In May, Jerome was being linked to the San Antonio Spurs. The Denver Nuggets have also been connected to him, according to Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor. It’s known that the Dallas Mavericks are looking for a starting-caliber combo guard. The Detroit Pistons appear prepared to lose former Sixth Man of the Year finalist Dennis Schroder in free agency.

Among the aforementioned teams, which would be the best fit for the New York native?

Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets are reportedly seeking out a seasoned backup for star guard LaMelo Ball. With that in mind, 20-year NBA veteran and five-time assist champion Chris Paul could be more of what they’re looking for. Nevertheless, Jerome still has six years of NBA experience under his belt. Furthermore, with the way he added to the Cavs firepower, he’s a particularly appealing option.

In 2024-25, Jerome averaged a career-high 12.5 points per game, shooting 43.9 percent from 3. He had 13 games scoring 20 or more points, including a 33-point outing against the Philadelphia 76ers. When he was on the court, Cleveland was +9.6 points per 100 possessions better. With Tre Mann‘s back injury and impending free agent status, Jerome might be the right man to replace him.

San Antonio Spurs

Last year, the San Antonio Spurs selected Stephon Castle with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. A few months later, they traded for former Sacramento Kings face of the franchise De’Aaron Fox. On June 25, they took Dylan Harper with the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Thus, San Antonio already has plenty of guards who are at their best with the ball in their hands and probably don’t need to add another.

After all, there is only one ball.

However, there’s not just overlap in this Spurs trio’s strengths. Offensively, they all have the same weakness as well; they’re not great 3-point shooters. In fact, last season they all shot under 34 percent from 3. In this day and age, that’s almost unheard of. As a result of this glaring problem, Jerome becomes a rather sensible fit for San Antonio. Indeed, as a career 38.1 percent 3-point shooter with experience playing on and off-ball, he could play a key role.
