Much has been made of Colorado football’s recent exodus of transfers, but Deion Sanders and his sons are standing strong.
During a press conference last week, Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son and the Buffaloes’ star quarterback, spoke alongside brother Shilo, a starting safety on the team. Both siblings made it clear that they believe in their father’s program.
Shedeur even put the blame for some of the transfers at the foot of the players who left.
“If you’re not playing here, that just means you’re doing something wrong,” Shedeur said, via Denver Sports. “If you’re not playing here that means you’re doing something—not listening to the coaches or something.”
Shilo then jumped in and piggybacked on his brother’s point.
“Not everybody sees behind the scenes in practice and we know who these guys really are,” he said. “They might get on Instagram or Twitter or say something but it’s not like you’re even doing anything bro. Y’all don’t know what is going on at practice every day because you just see highlight plays here and there but we practice every day almost. We know who is who and if somebody was done wrong we would know that.”
The group of players who entered the portal this month included starting running back Alton McCaskill, potential starting tight end Chamon Metayer, who just transferred into the program in January, and five-star defensive back Cormani McClain.
“You haven’t been watching practice, huh? We good. I trust the recruiting team, I trust our coaches,” Deion Sanders said recently.
“Please have some faith in me. We good. We’re alright,” he continued. “What happens with the portal and you guys need to know, a lot of people are fighting for backups. When a guy’s a starter and he transfers, you’ve got to really think about that.”
