The Pac-12 is taking the lead on a great program.

A new benefit of NIL will soon give players the option for additional compensation for their own game highlights. As part of an ongoing exploration into better revenue opportunities, Tempus Ex Machina, in-conjunction with the Pac-12 conference, will allow student-athletes to personalize game content for their own social media accounts. All Pac-12 players will be able to benefit starting next season with football and men’s and women’s basketball.

“The Pac-12 was the first conference to make its game highlights available to student-athletes for NIL purposes, and now, through our all-encompassing data and technology partnership, we can offer Pac-12 student-athletes something they’ve never been able to utilize before for their own financial benefit,“ said Annie Gerhart, COO, Tempus Ex Machina.

“Our technology is ready for social media companies to create turnkey monetization programs that student-athletes can opt into and begin to earn compensation on their own highlights.”

The unique offering by Tempus Ex gives athletes a new monetization avenue under the NCAA’s Name, Image and Likeness adoption. Until last year, college athletes were limited to a scholarship and stipend due to the “amateurism” clause cited by the NCAA, which generates $20 billion per year.

“The Pac-12 is committed to providing our student-athletes with best-in-class technology, tools and promotional platforms that support their individual brands,” said Pac-12 Commissioner George Kliavkoff.

“Our partnership with Tempus Ex is focused on enhancing our student-athlete and fan experiences, and today’s announcement is another important step in positioning the Pac-12 as a leader when it comes to student-athlete promotion and brand building.”

Tempus Ex’s proprietary technology takes the game to the next level with multiple angles of every play from games with enhanced digital delivery.

“By giving Pac-12 student-athletes access to their own personalized game day highlights, it opens up a whole new avenue for them to monetize and amplify their brands,” said former NFL receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr., who became a board member for Tempus Ex Machina. “Tempus Ex’s proprietary FusionFeed technology is a game changer for college student-athletes as they continue to explore NIL partnerships.”

The Pac-12 and Tempus Ex are now six months into their original data partnership struck in March of this year. Many have speculated if the conference will use the tech company for direct sales of content to gambling sites and other entertainment properties.

News of the Pac-12 content offering comes on the same day the Big Ten hopes to cash in on media rights fees. A $1.5 billion price tag is reportedly in the works with the addition of USC and UCLA in 2024, according to Front Office Sports. It would be the richest deal in college sports to date.
