Jabari Walker signs two-way deal with Philadelphia 76ers

The Buff finds a new city.

After three years in Portland, former Colorado Buffaloes star Jabari Walker has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Walker has signed a two-way deal, a non-guaranteed contract that could see him split time between the Sixers and the G League affiliate Delaware Blue Coats.

NBA teams are allowed to carry three two-way players in addition to the maximum 15 players on standard contracts. Walker may be active for as many as 50 games before the 76ers must convert his contract to a standard one.

Walker was surely hoping for a better deal following the conclusion of his rookie deal. However, the Portland Trail Blazers didn’t have room for him and there was nothing better in unrestricted free agency.

Still just 22 years old — at least until the end of the month — Walker offers value as a rebounder, screener and an improved shooter. He’s still a bit undersized for a big and isn’t the best athlete, but he knows his role and works hard to support his teammates.

Philadelphia has only filled 13 of their 15 roster spots, but as things stand right now, there should be opportunity for Walker. The Sixers lost Guerschon Yabusele in free agency and have yet to replace him at the PF position. Kelly Oubre, rookie Johni Broome and old Blazers teammate Trendon Watford represent Walker’s competition.
