Football recruiting: Former Maine edge Khairi Manns commits to CU Buffs

June 2, 2023 by The Denver Post

After a productive run in the Football Championship Subdivision, edge defender Khairi Manns is ready to test himself in the Power 5.

On Monday, the former Maine Black Bear announced that he is transferring to Colorado.

Listed at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, Manns played four seasons at Maine and was one of the team’s top pass rushers. After redshirting in 2019, Manns played in all 26 games over the past three seasons, with 15 starts.

During his career with the Black Bears, he had 108 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. In 2022, he had 43 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.

Prior to his time at Maine, Manns starred at New Rochelle (N.Y.) High School, earning all-state honors twice and all-conference honors three times.

Manns is the 44th transfer to CU this offseason, including the 26th to join the 2023 recruiting class this spring.

CU has loaded up on edge defenders, particularly this spring.

Along with Manns, Deeve Harris (Old Dominion), Derrick McLendon II (Florida State), Sav’ell Smalls (Washington), JJ Hawkins (Mississippi) and Arden Walker (Missouri) have committed to the Buffs as transfers this spring. Chance Main, who played at CU last year, also made the decision recently to return to the Buffs. Jordan Domineck (Arkansas) and Jeremiah Brown (Jackson State) joined the Buffs in January.
