If there’s one university’s athletic director that nobody in America wants to hear complaints from, it’s Colorado’s Rick George. So when the man who signs Deion Sanders’ paychecks complained about the state of the transfer portal, he immediately got roasted.
Yesterday the Colorado Buffaloes lost yet another player to the NCAA transfer portal with running back Alton McCaskill set to leave. After seeing the news, George took to X and declared that you can “Thank the AGs (attorney generals) that filed the temporary restraining order” which allowed for unlimited movement by players.
But college football fans didn’t want to hear any of that. Many pointed out that he’s being hypocritical as a huge swath of the players that the Buffaloes added last year came via the transfer portal.
“Aren’t you the same AD who hired a coach that brought in 53 players from the transfer portal last year,” one user pointed out.
“I legit thought this was a parody account lmao,” wrote another.
Other fans were a lot more scathing in their responses, pointing out that he has no right to complain when his teams have lost so consistently since bringing in Coach Prime to coach the team:
“Colorado’s AD is nostalgic for status coercion. If it wasn’t for those AGs and their pesky laws, campus athletic workers would still be compelled to endure any and all treatment at the hands of coaches. Those were the days!” a user declared.
“It was all good when “we coming” but now that “we leaving” Colorado’s AD is taking a shot at a ruling allowing unlimited transfers Colorado AG Phil Weiser is among those suing the NCAA over the Sherman Act RG hired Prime, whose limited success on the field came bc of transfers,” another pointed out.
The Buffaloes have now seen around 20 players enter the transfer portal in the last five months.
Suffice it to say, Deion Sanders is going to have to find a way to make this all work with what may be less star power than he had last year.
