Short answer: No.
Maybe you’ve seen a headline or two, but if you don’t know yet, Shedeur Sanders is now in the NFL and the Colorado Buffaloes have to replace their star QB.
Deion Sanders has brought in two quarterbacks to compete for the starting job. Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter is the front-runner, while five-star freshman JuJu Lewis has all the tools but still looks like a 17-year-old at times.
It seems like a clear succession plan. Salter figures to start in 2025, then Lewis takes over for the next two or three years. If Lewis is wildly impressive — or Salter wildly unimpressive — the Buffs will give him a good chance to win the job. It’s a fairly typical QB battle between steady veteran and talented freshman.
That’s not stopping ESPN from speculating that the Buffs are actively searching for another QB. The Buffs are in a category with Auburn, North Carolina and Oklahoma, all high-level programs searching for their guy. Eli Lederman wrote that Salter is the stopgap and Lewis is the heir apparent to Shedeur, but the Buffs are still hot on the recruiting trail.
The Buffs aren’t searching for anyone that will actively challenge Salter and Lewis, at least not until they have a good chance to prove themselves. Yet there’s already media attention on the position and whoever wins the job will face scrutiny immediately. All eyes are on the Buffs, for better or for worse, and any CU quarterback will have to deal with that.
