Much has been made about the amount of players Colorado is losing to the transfer portal.
However, Deion Sanders is still confident in what he has left and what is coming in. On Thursday, Sanders was asked what he was looking for in the transfer portal, and the second-year head coach indicated more help is on the way.
“Depth, always depth. I think every coach wants depth,” Sanders explained. “You want depth at the offensive line. We’re going to bring in several more of those guys. Defensive interior guys as well. You know, we got pass rushers coming, a couple already signed. I think we have four defensive backs that’s coming, two already signed. A couple of linebackers gonna come in. I think we already got a commitment from the tight end, I believe. So, I think we’re good. I know where we are. You’ll find out where we are real soon.”
More than a dozen Buffaloes have entered the portal this week, which has sparked criticism of Sanders and his program.
Sanders has also been ridiculed for having his sons, Shedeur, the team’s star quarterback and Shiloh, one of its starting safeties, openly solicit prospective transfers on social media.
He’s not paying any mind to that blowback either.
“They don’t know how this stuff works,” Sanders said on DNVR Sports. “We don’t talk behind closed doors… Let’s get this straight, when real players want to jump, they can’t talk to personnel, right? So who do you talk to? (The players). How stupid are you to think that they don’t talk to one another? That’s when you know who’s who and what’s what.
“That’s where it comes from first. Like if I know who’s going to jump into the portal from our team, what are my players are gonna tell me? Not a coach from somewhere else because it’s illegal? Correct? For the coach to be having these conversations, although they happen… But when Shilo says this, he’s not lying.”
