Deion Sanders has no intentions of limiting Travis Hunter’s two-way role this season.
The former No. 1 recruit played wide receiver and defensive back during an All-American season at Colorado. In an interview with DNVR Sports, Sanders said he’ll let Hunter handle the same workload as long as he’s up to the challenge again.
“It’s on him,” Sanders said, via On3. “You want the kid to have fun, and you want a kid to be all that he desires to be. Travis came out of high school playing both ways. Travis came out of youth ball playing both ways. Travis going to college playing both ways, came from Jackson State playing both ways. Why would we change what he’s always done in his life?”
Sanders doesn’t care about critics “with no talent” arguing Colorado should limit Hunter’s reps. He asked if they count how many reps they take when walking to the refrigerator.
“Travis loves the game,” Sanders said. “We have a tremendous relationship, and I know him and I know when he needs rest. We rest him one day a week during [the] season as well, anyway, to make sure he gets his legs up under him. And he does a good job of being honest and telling us where he is.”
After transferring from Jackson State alongside his head coach, Hunter garnered 721 receiving yards and five touchdowns while tallying 30 tackles and three interceptions in nine games. The 20-year-old’s unparalleled versatility could help solidify his stock as a high 2025 draft pick with another strong season at Boulder.
