Deion Sanders is not afraid to speak his mind on X/Twitter, and this morning, he used his platform to stick up for an NFL Draft prospect he feels isn’t getting enough love.
Sanders tweeted that he “can’t stand” that Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has not garnered the hype of some of his positional peers.
“I can’t stand the way the main stream media and draft experts have look over, look by & looked pass MICHAEL PENIX JR.,” Sanders wrote. “This is ridiculous. This young man had a GREAT year and 1 average game vs the #1 defense in college football. SOMEBODY stand up & tell the Truth plz. #CoachPrime.”
Penix competed in the Pac-12 the last two seasons, and while he didn’t face Sanders’ Colorado team in 2023, the left-handed passer lit up some opponents that Coach Prime is very familiar with.
Among Penix’s positive attributes are his arm strength and high character, but he’s also already 24 years old, has limited mobility and dealt with a multitude of injuries over his six-year college career at UW and Indiana.
As a result, he’s mostly being regarded as the fifth or sixth-best quarterback in this year’s class, though some analysts believe the Tampa, Fla. native could still work his way into the first round.
The 2024 NFL Draft will begin tomorrow night in Detroit.
