Formann has been a staple in Danish basketball for years now.
After concluding her illustrious career with the Colorado Buffaloes, Frida Formann will have a busy summer wearing the red and white of her native Denmark.
Formann was recently named to the Danish 3X3 team and now she’s been included in the senior national team. This is expected news for Formann, who split time between Denmark and CU during her final season in Boulder, and previously competed in the Eurobasket qualifiers in 2021.
Formann is one of Denmark’s brightest stars. She dominated the Danish KBL before her 18th birthday, averaging 16.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Værløse Blue Hawks before JR Payne came calling. Her time in Boulder speaks for itself, as the five-year starter made it to two Sweet Sixteens and set the record for most three-pointers in program history.
The Danish national team will meet in June before traveling to Japan for two friendly matches in July. Formann will be back in Denmark for the 2025 3X3 Europe Cup, a tournament hosted at Ofelia Plads, a man-made platform in the Copenhagen harbor, from September 5-7.
On both of these teams, Formann will join star guard Maria Jespersen (Avenida, Spain), sharpshooter Alberte Rimdal (Nebraska) and 6’4 center (and Frida’s bestie) Julianna Okosun (Falcon, Denmark). There’s also a woman named Ellen Iversen, although she won’t play 3X3.
It’s not clear where Formann will play after the summer. She hoped to make the WNBA but a foot injury made that difficult. It’s likely she will look for a team in Europe, just not in Denmark because the level (and pay) isn’t high enough.
