Colorado landed a major transfer commitment on Wednesday afternoon, adding former Florida A&M linebacker Johnny Chaney.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Chaney picked the Buffaloes after taking a visit to Boulder this week.
“Just the culture and knowing what the coaching staff is capable of developing me and getting me where I need to be and want to be,” Chaney told On3 Sports about his decision.
“Being able to come up here and see it in person, just sitting down and picking their minds and having a talk and seeing where their head is at did it for me.”
Last season, Chaney racked up 58 total tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery. He made 48 stops and recorded 0.5 sacks in 2022 after recording two tackles in 2021.
Once again, Deion Sanders has been making frequent use of the transfer portal this offseason, With a slew of players leaving the CU program, Sanders has been at work trying to replace them.
Since January, the Buffaloes have brought in more than 20 outside transfers. Currently, Colorado’s 2024 transfer haul ranks first nationally, according to On3.
Chaney is one of four transfer commitments Sanders has added in the last week, joining Furman cornerback Ivan Yates, Louisville defensive lineman Tawfiq Thomas and Michigan State offensive tackle Ethan Boyd.
