The NCAA’s handling of this past football season will continue to impact rosters in an unprecedented manner. Playing this past season won’t count towards an athlete’s eligibility –– meaning players have an extra year to utilize if they so choose.
Seniors who want to extend their eligibility can do so. Many of Colorado State’s contributors, and not only seniors, have already jumped the gun upon making a decision surrounding the 2021 season. With that, an updated look at the CSU roster.
One more year
Marshaun Cameron –– It appears the 5-foot-9, 190-pound defensive back will stay on the roster in light of his Jan. 4 tweet, stating “the story continues.” After totaling 51 tackles, the UNC transfer assisted the Rams in defeating Wyoming with a pick-six.
Ellison Hubbard –– The 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive tackle tweeted his intentions of sticking around Fort Collins for one final run on Dec. 31. A veteran asset to a dominant defensive front, Hubbard has accrued 16.5 tackles for loss (10.5 sacks) in 41 career games.
Manny Jones –– On Dec. 20, the Rams publicized Jones’ return with a Twitter montage. One of CSU’s all-time leading takedown-for-loss specialists, The 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive lineman enters 2021 with 27 TFLs and 11 career sacks.
Trey McBride –– Though McBride represents the only non-senior in this group, the 6-foot-4, 260-pound tight end had an option of turning pro. But, after leading the Rams in receiving with 22 grabs for 330 yards, the second-team All-MW selection announced his return.
Toby McBride –– The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive lineman claimed he’s “Not quite done yet” via Twitter. The soon-to-be sixth-year contributor posted 12 tackles (3.5 for loss) in three games this past season.
Marcus McElroy, Jr. –– The 6-foot, 235-pound running back declared that he will be spending one more season with the Rams on Jan. 4. He averaged 2.7 yards per touch this past season.
Scott Patchan –– Considering the Miami transfer’s massive impact throughout his first season as a Ram, it was difficult to imagine the 6-foot-6, 255-pound defensive end leaving. Patchan, an All-MW first-team honoree who led the team in TFLS (7.5) and sacks (5.5), tweeted he will be back.
Ryan Stonehouse –– The punter tweeted on Dec. 18 that he won’t enter the draft. “Stoney’s” career average of 47 yards per punt ranks first in program history.
Keith Williams –– The 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive lineman tweeted he “Unfinished Business” to take care of on Jan. 5. He started three games at left tackle last season.
Bid your farewells
Caleb Blake –– In November, Blake said he was entering the transfer portal. The 5-foot-10, 174-pound safety didn’t see the field in 2020.
Christian Cumber –– Per multiple reports, Cumber is transferring. The defensive back ecorded three tackles in four games as a redshirt junior.
Tyreese Jackson –– As a redshirt freshman, the 6-foot, 220-pound running back didn’t play in 2020.
Patrick O’Brien –– CSU’s former quarterback pledged to Washington on Dec. 31 as a graduate with one season left. He completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,394 passing yards and 16 touchdowns in 15 games.
Livingston Paogofie –– After opting out of the 2020 season, Rivals claimed that the 6-foot-1, 270-pound defensive lineman elected to enter the portal on Dec. 11.
Jeremiah Pruitte –– The 6-foot-5, 220-pound wideout’s early collegiate tenure didn’t work out as he never saw the field. He’ll transfer to Florida A&M.
Jadon Walker –– Per Walker’s Twitter, the 6-foot, 200-pound receiver will transfer as a graduate. He had one catch in four games the past two years.
