Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio came under scrutiny for his clock management multiple times during the 2020 season. Fangio’s the head coach but he also handles defensive play-calling, which can distract him from game management duties.
One potential way to help with game management would be for Fangio to assign clock management duties to someone else, allowing him to focus on calls. Another potential solution would be to allow defensive coordinator Ed Donatell to handle play-calling, allowing Fangio to focus on head coach duties.
During his end-of-season press conference on Jan. 5, Fangio said the team will “evaluate everything” this offseason in an effort to improve. Fangio was later asked if play-calling might be handed over to Donatell.
“I think that falls under what I said before,” Fangio said. “Anything we can do from A to Z to improve, we will look at and we will evaluate and see if we think it’s the best thing to do.”
Through two seasons in Denver, Fangio has a 12-20 win-loss record.
