When the Denver Broncos unveiled a new uniform wardrobe last year, they reintroduced their beloved throwback uniform with the fan-favorite “D” logo.
During an interview with Front Office Sports at the Super Bowl earlier this month, Broncos president Damani Leech was asked if the team might consider returning to the “D” logo fulltime.
“Yeah, we thought about that at the initial design process for this most recent redesign,” Leech said. “[We] didn’t wanna abandon the current logo, the horse head logo. We won [three] Super Bowls with that, I think there’s a lot of fans that feel passionately about that.”
NFL clubs can wear an alternate or throwback uniform up to three times each season. Leech said the team will probably wear their throwback uniforms twice per season going forward (with the third game being an alternate uniform).
Leech indicated that wearing the throwback logo twice per year “is the best of both worlds,” but he also left the door open for change down the road.
“Having the flexibility with the NFL uniform policies to have both, really for us is the best of both worlds. Not to say what we might do in the future, but I think what we have now for the next minimum five years is pretty good.”
So no changes are coming anytime soon. The “D” logo will continue to be worn with the throwback look twice per season, but no fulltime changes are imminent.
