What's the latest on Aaron Rodgers?

February 7, 2022 by Broncos Wire Leave a Comment

After the Green Bay Packers were knocked out of the playoffs, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemingly left the door wide open on possibilities for his future.

Rodgers did not directly rule out retirement, remaining in Green Bay for 2022 or joining another team this offseason. The 38-year-old QB did indicate he won’t drag out the process, with a decision arriving before the start of NFL free agency (March 16).

So, what’s the latest on Rodgers?

The quarterback is said to be purchasing land in Tennessee, sparking much speculation that he could land with the Titans this offseason. ESPN’s Turron Davenport debunked that speculation last Friday, reporting that Tennessee does not “consider Rodgers to be an option for them” this offseason (via Titans Wire).

Meanwhile, back in Green Bay, the team’s front office and coaching staff are “all in agreement” that they want Rodgers to return in 2022, team president Mark Murphy wrote in a recent column on the team’s website (via Packers Wire).

So if Rodgers leaves the Packers this offseason, it will be of his own accord. And if he does leave, the Titans are not expected to be among his suitors.

If Rodgers demands a trade and Green Bay gives in to his request, Denver is expected to show interest (the Broncos were also interested in 2021). Denver has five picks in the first three rounds of the 2022 NFL draft and about $50 million in available salary cap space, so general manager George Paton appears to have the capital needed for a potential trade.

Overall, not much has changed since the end of the season given that Rodgers has not spoken publicly. Once the QB officially announces a decision on his future in the NFL, we’ll have a better idea of whether or not the Broncos will be able to make a run at the QB this offseason.
