It feels good to beat ‘Dem Boys’.
Doesn’t it seem like Denver’s win over the Washington Football Team was a hundred-thousand years ago?
After trading the defensive face of the franchise, many, including myself, were ready to throw dirt on Denver’s chances for 2021. It turns out the Broncos had a whole lot to say about that. I absolutely love it when they prove me wrong.
When the opening kickoff was returned out of the end-zone for 54-yards, it looked like more of the same for Denver. Then, holy crap, look out, Denver’s defense took the field. It would be an understatement to say that Dallas underestimated the Broncos defense. The Cowboys were 0-4 in 4th down attempts in the game.
To call the Broncos defense ‘stout’ simply doesn’t give them enough credit. Denver absolutely smothered what was billed, up until Sunday’s loss, as the NFL’s greatest offense. The box score is kinder to Dallas than it really was. If you take away the two garbage-time touchdowns, it was the quality beatdown that Denver fans have been hungering for.
Offensively, Javonte Williams was not to be stopped. To carry four or five defenders on his back as his legs keep churn out yards is something to behold. To see it multiple times in a single game is other-worldly. It turns out that when you give Williams and Melvin Gordon the ball, great things begin to happen. On Sunday, it happened to tune of 190-yards on the ground.
Because the ground game was so successful, Teddy Bridgewater was able to work the field. Forget the checkdown-Teddy talk; he was dealing dimes all over the field. Jeudy, Hinton, and Tim Freakin’ Patrick all combined to give the Broncos 217-yards passing. Seeing Teddy throw for big chunks was an exciting change of pace from the offense we’ve seen over the last month and a half. More of that, please.
Broncos fans deserved every ounce of this win after this past week. It’s a credit to the fans that, despite the Miller trade and despite an underperforming product on the field, Broncos Country showed up in Arlington in force. What a game to have been at!
Don’t look now, but the Broncos are 5-4 and firmly in the playoff hunt. It was a good week.
