Saints Fan Favorite Named A Potential Cut Candidate – 3 Suitors Emerge

June 28, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Taysom Hill is one of the most iconic players on the New Orleans Saints, but his time with the club could be coming to an end. One of the few remaining holdovers from the Drew Brees/Sean Payton Era, the do-everything Swiss Army knife may not be a fit with the current organization. Now embracing a youth movement with first-year head coach Kellen Moore and rookie quarterback Tyler Shough, the Saints may not have use for a 35-year-old Taysom Hill and his $17.98 million cap hit, especially since he’s recovering from an ACL injury.

The Saints can save $10 million in cap space by releasing him, and that’s exactly what Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay expects to happen. In a recent article, the NFL analyst made his case for cutting the fan favorite. While his time with the Saints may be coming to a close, several teams could bring in Taysom Hill and see if his unique skill set can translate to wins.

“The cash-strapped club may find it more palatable to get both salary-cap relief – New Orleans would receive $10 million in cap savings in exchange for $8 million in dead money – and roster space for youthful talent under head coach Kellen Moore, while a contending team willing to be patient with Hill’s recovery could still benefit from signing him,” Kay writes.

Saints Could Release Taysom Hill; Do-Everything Weapon In Demand

Next Teams

Denver Broncos

Nobody loves Taysom Hill more than Sean Payton, so it only makes sense these two reunite away from the Saints. Payton brought the Broncos to the playoffs despite starting a rookie quarterback in Bo Nix while lacking proven weapons beyond wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Free agent signee Evan Engram will be the primary tight end in this passing attack, but the team could use someone like Hill to be the TE2 and add an extra dimension as a trick play threat.

Seattle Seahawks

If Sean Payton doesn’t sign Taysom Hill, he could reunite with Klint Kubiak, the Saints former offensive coordinator. Now working in New Orleans, the Seattle Seahawks will live and die with Sam Darnold in 2025. While Darnold is coming off a strong season with the Vikings, he’ll struggle to replicate that success away from Kevin O’Connell and Justin Jefferson. Hill isn’t nearly as good as Jefferson, but he’ll bring some much-needed depth to a top-heavy roster with only two proven playmakers in Jaxon Smith-Njigba and an aging Cooper Kupp.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers spent most of the past decade playing against Taysom Hill, so it makes sense for them to pursue the veteran if he leaves the Saints. Dave Canales’ squad boasts a collection of young, promising playmakers, but lacks proven pass-catching talent. Hill could be the perfect veteran mentor for second-year tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders. If Sanders continues to develop, Hill won’t keep him from seeing the field. However, if he takes a step back, the longtime Saint could easily step in and play a role for this offense.
