RGIII says the Broncos should trade for disgruntled 49ers wide receiver

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to let wide receiver Deebo Samuel seek a trade, and a former NFL quarterback and current pundit believes the Denver Broncos would be an ideal landing spot.

“The Denver Broncos should trade for Deebo Samuel,” Robert Griffin III wrote on his Twitter/X page earlier this week. “Sean Payton said he needs a ‘Joker’ who can be an elite receiver who can play RB/TE, create mismatches and own the middle. That’s Deebo. Sean Payton will understand how to use his versatility and get him back to his YAC Attack.”

Denver already has an in-house version of Samuel in receiver Marvin Mims, but there might be room for both players in Payton’s offense. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to give quarterback Bo Nix more weapons in his second season.

Kyle Madson of Niners Wire has suggested that a plausible deal for Samuel could net the 49ers “a Day 3 pick,” which covers rounds 4-7. So if the Broncos want to trade for the receiver, it seems that the price could be a mid-round pick.

Samuel is set to turn 30 on Saturday and he’s scheduled to have a salary cap hit north of $15.86 million this season. There is no guaranteed salary remaining in Samuel’s contract, so if they are unable to find a trade partner, it’s possible that San Francisco could end up releasing him.

Samuel would be a great target for the Broncos as a free agent, but it remains to be seen if the team will have any interest in attempting a possible trade.
